Technical Bulletin
We would like to point out that good operation of the timing system depends on the quality of the pulleys, timing belts and tensioners employed.
The pulleys and timing belt tensioners manufactured by NYTRON are designed for good counterbalancing and concentricity in order to avoid belt vibration, which causes premature detrition of the system. The main problem that occurs in the timing system is the rupture of the timing belt, sometimes due to incorrect installation, longevity of components or inadequate system maintenance. Timing belt rupture damages several engine parts, such as engine heads and valves, which are expensive to repair. One of the ways to detect the problem is the squeaking or noises produced by the engine. Such noises are generated by unaligned pulleys, a worn-out timing belt or an overused tensioner.
Detrition is caused by several factors:
- Excessive use of timing belts, tensioners and pulleys;
- Unaligned pulleys;
- Unbalanced pulleys;
- Dried belt;
- Unnecessary revving and drags;
- Installation of pulleys, tensioners or belts which are not adequate to vehicle’s specifications or made with low-quality materials;
- Over or under-tensioned timing belts;
- Contamination by external agents, such as water, oil, dust, etc;
- Vehicle use in severe conditions;
To increase the lifespan of all the synchronism system and protect the engine, NYTRON recommends the following precautions:
- When you replace belts, tensioners and pulleys should also be replaced.
- Adjust tensioners and pulleys according o the manufacturer’s specifications.
- Double-check pulley alignment during assembly.
- Always employ NYTRON belts and pulleys.
- Check pulleys, timing belts and tensioners every 10.000 Km.
- Replace the whole system every 40.000 Km.
- Always take your car to certified repair shops.
- Ensure correct torque is applied during tensioner assembly.
